Section 2 - Preparedness
These questions relate to your organisation’s actions around preparing for emergency and disaster situations.
Has your organisation been involved in supporting NDIS Participants to plan or prepare for a natural disaster event? For example, using the Person-Centred Emergency Preparedness (P-CEP) tool or putting together an emergency backpack.
Do NDIS Service Agreements document what plans are in place that will ensure continuity of care in the event of an emergency or disaster?
Are these plans routinely reviewed?
Have frontline managers and support workers been trained in the implementation of these plans?
Are frontline managers and support workers encouraged to talk to NDIS Participants and their support workers about what to do if your organisation cannot provide support if there is a natural disaster? For example, via a policy or procedure instruction.
Does your organisation have a relationship with Local Emergency Management Committees – or equivalent local Council committee for your State/Territory - in the communities you provide support in?
Does your organisation have relationships with local emergency services in the communities you provide support in?
Does your organisation regularly undertake emergency drills with NDIS Participants and their support workers? For example, what to do if you must evacuate because of a flood or bushfire (not a routine fire drill).
Section 3 - Response
These questions relate to your organisation’s experience of responding during an emergency or disaster.
Are you confident NDIS Participants, their support workers, and Frontline Managers know what to do if there is a natural disaster? For example, if there is a flood or a bushfire.
Does your organisation have mechanisms in place to keep NDIS Participants, their support workers, and frontline managers updated about how they will be supported while an emergency or disaster is happening, or immediately after (e.g. up to a week after)?
Have you ever had an experience with emergency services responding to an emergency or disaster event at work (e.g. a fire service, an ambulance service, SES)?
Section 4 - Recovery
These questions relate to your organisation’s approach to supporting people following an emergency or disaster situation.
Does your organisation have mechanisms in place for NDIS Participants, their support workers, and frontline managers to support them to get things back on track for the people you support following an emergency or disaster? For example, re-establish routine supports, set the house back up.
Following an emergency or disaster event, does your organisation have mechanisms in place to provide information to NDIS Participants and their support workers about where to access other potential supports, such as counselling, community connection/recovery events, financial assistance, food/clothing donations etc.
Does your organisation have mechanisms in place to reflect on how well an emergency or disaster event has been managed?
