Scheduled group NDIS Participant consultations have been completed, we are now conducting individual interviews. If you would like to participate please register for an online interview below.
The following information has been developed to tell you about a project we are working on, that we would like your help with.
What’s the project about?
As part of the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission’s Support for NDIS Providers Program, we have been awarded a two-year grant to develop a toolkit for Emergency and Disaster Management.
We will be consulting with people with disability who are NDIS Participants about how their NDIS Providers can best support them in emergency and disaster situations, for example floods, fires, and the current Covid pandemic.
We are interested in hearing about the experiences of people with disability in emergency and disaster situations. We are keen to know what has worked well for you at these times, and what hasn’t worked well (or could be improved).
We will also be talking with NDIS Providers, support workers, and emergency services representatives, as well as your supporters such as family members, carers, and advocates.
We would like to invite you to be involved in our consultation process by participating in an interview.
Each interview will take approximately one hour.
Rachel Dickson from Kaleidoscope Focus will be facilitating the session, in addition to support from a representative from the Australian Federation of Disability Organisations (AFDO) who is helping with planning and co-ordination.
The interview will not be video recorded; however, a transcript of the discussion will be kept. No personal details will be used in the report we will prepare for the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.
If you choose to be involved and attend an interview, you will be reimbursed $80.00 for your time. AFDO will arrange for payment to be made to you after the session.
By participating in a Zoom group discussion, individual interview or completing a survey about your experiences of emergency and disaster situations you will be sharing your unique stories and views, which will potentially lead to the development of new resources for helping others in the future.
As this is a national project, your stories and views will also form part of an Australian snapshot into what it is like to have experienced supporting people with disability during emergencies and disasters.
If you have been seriously affected by emergencies or disasters in the past, it is possible that participating in this interview might remind you of the negative aspects of these experiences.
Your involvement in the project is voluntary, and you have the right to withdraw your participation at any time if you are too uncomfortable to continue.
The facilitator will be able to direct you to suitable services and supports if you need to talk to someone at the completion of your Zoom group session or interview.
